Websites Resources
First Quarter
Reading
What to Practice:

Understanding characters in the story. Identify and discuss characters and their traits.

If they get it, try this:

Create a character web, identifying more than one character in a story and discussing/writing down how they interact with each other. Students should identify how they characters feel, what they are thinking, and what they are doing throughout the story.

If their struggling, try this:

Have student write down character names AS they are reading the story. Everytime they come across a name, write it down. After reading, go back and talk about the characters. Discuss things like "What were they like?" "What words could you tell me to describe them?" etc.

Writing
What to Practice:

Adding details to their writing.

If they get it, try this:

Continue adding more details to a 5 paragraph paper, making sure students are adding the full range of sensory details. Also look at adding transitional words and phrases to their writing.

If their struggling, try this:

Create a story map. Map out in a web what they want their story to be about. Add bubbles around the web for the details when you have the main thoughts figured out.

Math
What to Practice:

Multiplication Facts

If they get it, try this:

Move onto division and 2 digit multiplication.

If their struggling, try this:

Kahn Academy is a great resource with step by step videos and lessons on how to do these math standards. Watch videos and complete practice lessons if necessary.

Using flash cards is also a great tool.

Homework
For the Month of:
February

Reading:

Students are asked to read a minimum of 15 minutes every night. Each student has a Reading Log calendar to fill out and record these minutes. I understand we are all busy, so if you miss a night, double up the next night.

Please fill out the reading log with your child throughout the month. Keep it posted where you can both clearly see it. Send in the calendar with their minutes at the end of each month. I will be keeping track throughout the school year of the total number of minutes our class has read. The goal will be to get more minutes each month than the month before. For each month that we reach our goal, we will have a "camp out" in our classroom with a special treat. Info will be sent home each month on the celebration... so make sure we are always reading! I will post the minutes we have read throughout the school year on this website so you can follow along as well.

If you need a new reading log, (if you misplace it) please download and print the document. You can find it on the Contact Page of this website.

Math & Reading:

Worksheets are being sent home on Monday and are due on Friday. They are 2 sided with Math on one side and Reading on the other.

Any additional work sent home is classroom work that the student did not finish for some reason. Let me know if you have any questions.
